Unlikely Hero

I love online comics. One of my fav was RPGWorld before he abandoned the strip. Sadness. Anyways, the thief Cherry was really neat cause she was like the link between the real world and the game world. She noticed those strange things about the RPG world that I think the characters in that world didn't notice.

The Cast

Our unlikely hero is always strangely picked. Here we have this completely low lvl bumbling soldier that has never passed his exams to become a guard yet hes the only one that can defeat the enemy. The kingdom sends an army and can't do it. Yet this guy and a couple of buddies goes and takes down the entire empire. Is that not a bit odd. And our hero isnt always a soldier. Sometimes hes a thief. Sometimes a farmer. And sometimes no one at all. I think it was in Grandia that our hero was just some kid. Why is it always these characters that turn into the savior that can slay dragons and some how instantly know how to use weapons and magics and have battle skills. He can't win a dual against the captain of the guard but he can slay a dragon. Gotta be kidding me.
And the allies he meets along the way are a strange bunch. But why those guys. Of all the people that walked into that tavern looking for assistance. They chose to go with the bumbling boy that walked in with his little baby sister to go and battle the empire. The friggin empire. What in the world were they thinking? They won't accept a mission to hunt down a beast but they will accept a mission from a kid to go with them to take down the empire by themselves. Why didn't this guy just do it by himself in the first place. This kid has no powers. No skills. Nothing. He was just some farmer that his parents killed.

The Enemies

Why do they have to take over the world or find some item that gives them even more power to do what they are already successfully doing. These empires always seem like they are winning just fine as it is. But as soon as they decide to try something different something happens. They LOSE. Had they not gone to that farm to harvest the mana stream that went under it then they wouldn't have some dumb kid and his band of followers ruining all of ya plans and constantly killing off ya generals. And how is it that this kid is killing off ya generals. Did these guys not get trained. And after killing ya four top generals you decide to send ya right hand man to do the job. Why didn't you just do that to begin with. Why did you wait for the kid to train against ya other generals. And if ya right hand man comes back defeated then don't you think its time to start thinking about running. Or go in yourself from the start before the kid had 9 other guys following him. Instead you just waited and waited for this kid to get better and have more followers. Ya know if you just had tapped that mana stream from down the road then you wouldnt have had to deal with the house and wouldnt have that kid hounding you. It wasnt like the mana stream was coming straight up and that house was built directly over it. You could have done it differently. Heck you could have even just gone in and bought the place probably. Or better yet. The farm was dried up and they had no money anymore so you could have had a bank foreclose on them.

The beasts

It's a Giant wolf. It's carrying rare armor. Seriously. Even if it ate who was wearing it. Then what point is it to have the armor. Its useless if it didnt even protect the last wearer.

The Past

At some point you find out that the farmer boys dad was part of some amazing group of people or that ya real parents were like gods or you are the choosen one. So why didn't they get you sooner and at least get you trained. Instead now you are just finding out you can throw a fireball. How did you not accidently throw a fireball when you got mad cause ya wasn't allowed outside to play. And why did they waste so much time to get a hold of you. The world is in great peril and we need ya help. Yea thanks buddy for telling me that. Now I have 3 days to learn what I should have been training for all my life to take down a bad guy that has been infused with the powers of a fallen god. Great. thanks.

Damage

He just shot you in the face with a missle launcher. Come on. And that dragon just used his fire breath. Yet no third degree burns. Even ya clothes are still perfectly okay.


RPG's can be strange. Yea its just a game. But do you ever wonder how that stuff translates into real world terms. Or why certain things just don't happen. Why didn't that boss just pull out his gun and shoot the hero from the start. Oh yea. Right. It's cause he can withstand the blast of a missle launcher at point blank range. Face it buddy. Ya screwed. That farmer boy is gonna do what five ENTIRE kingdoms was unable to do. And thats cause they all attacked at the same exact time.
